Getting started on an assignment?
Are you doing an assignment, essay or thesis this semester? Do you ever find yourself stuck for a word, or perhaps you can't find the appropriate phrase to say what you mean... If so, the Academic Phrasebank might be useful for you...
The Academic Phrasebank is a general resource for academic writers, created by the University of Manchester.
According to the site's own description, ''It aims to provide you with examples of some of the phraseological "nuts and bolts" of writing.
The phrases can be used simply to assist you in thinking about your writing, or they can be used in your own work where this is appropriate. In most cases, a certain amount of creativity will be necessary when you do this. It is also possible to transfer some of the words used in particular phrases to others. The phrases are content neutral and generic in nature; in using them, therefore, you are not stealing other people's ideas and this does not constitute plagiarism.
Users will need to be aware that Phrasebank is not discipline specific, and it does not claim to be comprehensive''

Croissant Day
🥐🥐Croissant Day🥐🥐
January 30th 2018
Croissants can be enjoyed either on their own, with sweet or with savory fillings. Some enjoy them with ham and cheese others with a slathering of Nutella. But do we know the history of our beloved croissants invention? Check out Epicure & Culture's take on the history of the croissant!
"The earliest story of the croissant dates all the way back to 1683 Vienna, Austria. The legend takes place during the Ottoman Turk siege of the city; a baker apparently heard the Turks tunneling under the walls of the city as he lit his ovens to bake the morning bread. He quickly sounded an alarm, and the military collapsed the tunnel, saving the city. To celebrate, the baker baked a crescent-shaped bread, in the shape of the crescent moon of the Turkish flag......" (Monaco 2014)
If you fancy a croissant today be sure to check out Thethings.com article
Some varieties include, Oreo Stuffed Croissants, Fried Nutella Banana Croissant and Matcha Croissants!

New way to access online journals at ITB Library!
As you might have noticed, the library has made some changes
in how you access online journals and databases. You can now login with your student number
and network password, so there’s no more trying to remember a library PIN!
(1) The short way
To search for online journal articles, start at the library homepage (http://www.itb.ie/library/home.html) and click on Search Online Journals
If you are off-campus (i.e. using any non-ITB PC or MAC),
you will be asked to login. Click on Hello, Guest login for Full Access to
proceed.
Login using your student number and network password
(2) The backup plan
When accessing the library journals from off-campus, you
might see references to Shibboleth login.
If you find that you haven’t been prompted to login, you can always use
Shibboleth to login. For instance:
Start by clicking on Shibboleth
Select Ireland-Edugate from the drop-down menu
Select Institute of Technology Blanchardstown from the drop-down menu
You should see notification that you are logged in as an ITB user
If you have any questions about accessing ITB databases, call up to the library desk or email Libraryinfo@itb.ie.
