Why can't I eat my lunch in the library?

Here at ITB library we want to provide students with the best service we can. For us to do so, it is necessary to enforce certain rules. You may not think it, but these rules are in place to ensure a fair library experience for all our parons.

We do not allow consumption of food and drink (except water) in the library in the interests of health and safety and to reduce disturbance to other patrons.

Those patrons who eat their lunch in the library may not mean any harm, but consider:

Noise: Rustling of plastic, foil and paper; crunching on crisps will cause great annoyance to those trying to concentrate.

Smell: You may love popcorn, cheese and onion crisps or spicy chicken; but consider that those around you may hate the smell of your delicious lunch!

Mess: It is inevitable that among those who eat food in the library, some will leave a mess behind. Greasy keyboards, sticky carpets and messy desktops are a direct result of patrons eating and drinking soft-drinks in the library.

They say that rules are made to be broken. As rock n’ roll as this may seem, we would kindly ask all our users to please refrain from eating food and consuming soft-drinks in the library. It’s your library, lets help to keep it clean and tidy.
